Unit 6 - PowerPoint / Poster Project
Canada Then & Now
You have your choice of doing a PowerPoint presentation or a poster for this project. The overall goal is to compare Canada in the 1950's to Canada in 2008. Features of the 1950's and today that need to be examined are:
- Pollution: Is it better or worse? What were the issues then? What are the issues now?
- Foreign Policy - how we deal with the world: Peace-keeping vs. regular troops - which events have we been involved in? Has this changed? What was our military power in 1950 (Avro Arrow, Navy, etc.) and what is it today?
- Population: What was the "baby boom"? Have "live births" and "replacement levels" changed from then until now?
- Cost of housing: On a dollar to dollar scale, is it the same? What percentage of Canadians own homes today? Then?
- Shipping and transportation to other countries: How were bulk goods shipped to other countries? What ports were centres? How much tonnage was moved from these ports? How are these facts different today?
- Music: Rock 'n' Roll was the new craze or fad in the 1950's. What is it today? (Names/artists/stats might be nice.)
- Aboriginal rights: Voting - do Aboriginal peoples have more legal equality now vs. then? Has the perception of Canadians about First Nations peoples changed from then to now? If so, how?
